Een urban cluster met een focus op ecologisch self-support (zelfvoorzienendheid) is een geconcentreerde stedelijke woonvorm die streeft naar een gesloten kringloop van energie, water, voedsel en afval. In plaats van individuele woningen, werkt een cluster als een collectief systeem om efficiëntie en sociale verbondenheid te maximaliseren.
Gebruik van hernieuwbare bronnen (zon, wind) en opslag om volledig onafhankelijk van het energienet te functioneren.Lokale waterzuiveringssystemen (zoals helofytenfilters) en opvang van regenwater voor hergebruik.
Geïntegreerde stadslandbouw, permacultuur en gemeenschappelijke tuinen die voorzien in de dagelijkse behoefte.
Gebruik van natuurlijke en hernieuwbare materialen zoals hout, stro of leem.
In de moderne architectuur evolueert de
urban cluster van een passieve woonvorm naar een technologisch hoogstaand, totaal zelfvoorzienend ecosysteem. Hierbij versmelten esthetiek en autonomie door middel van slimme systemen en innovatieve materialen.
